Hi Thomas,

I mentioned on the community a week or so ago that i was keen to migrate my old board with Vanilla over to a ccBoard forum. Im pretty much ready to do this now, so i was wondering if you could help me out with doing so.

Vanilla is a forum by Lussumo. It is quite a good looking forum but does not integrate into Joomla. My old site was built using Rapidweaver (for mac) but Joomla has really opened my eyes. www.getvanilla.com

Any help would be awesome. What do you need?

Well the biggest problem always is the password ecryptions. Previously it only were md5 hashes, but companies started salting those encryptions.
The salt key is a key provided by the software and is different everytime you install it. Making the hashes more unique, more securited.
Cracking such md5 encryptions is impossible. You can use bruteforce, which takes long and impossible when such salt keys are used.

Example:

Vbulletin uses: md5(md5(.saltkey * password)).

Joomla uses: md5(tableprefix * password)).

If vanilla only uses md5 hashes without salt, than I might be able to do it.
Just a quick question, did you change the prefix on your dbtables or is it still jos_ ?

Did you change the DB prefix on installation? If your not sure go to your DB using the PhpMyAdmin your host provided. If all tables start with jos_ that that's your prefix
